Despite the fact that many families tend to use the last available weekends before Christmas to prepare their homes and shop for the December 25 holiday, there was a very full house at our second Community Outreach session, which was held in the Lion’s Gate community on Saturday November 24.This Outreach series was designed so that residents in housing communities are able meet with senior representatives of various HDC departments and raise concerns about issues and challenges that they may be experiencing. Once the issues are raised and brought to the fore, representatives at the Head Table provide responses to the residents and realistic timelines in which their issues will be addressed. At this session, residents were able to pose questions to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Community Relations), Patsy Joseph; Karen Aguilera, Estate Management Division; Nigel Barrow, Land Assembly Coordination; Peggy McMillan, Social and Community Services Department; Adeola Kobie, Sales Unit and Jeremy Campbell, Divisional Manager (Ag), Corporate Services. Representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services were also present and took advantage of the active audience to provide information on their grants and social services.
This outreach series is an initiative of the HDC’s Social and Community Services Department. The first meeting was held on October 6 at the Las Alturas Housing Community located in Morvant and thus far, this series has proven to be quite beneficial as a number of concerns raised by the residents of Las Alturas, have already been addressed.
