Today, employees from the HDC’s Social and Community Services Department visited Greenvale Park, La Horquetta to spread some Christmas cheer with elderly residents and those with disabilities. Accompanied by a Parang side, the team distributed hampers filled with essential items and special Christmas treats to thirty-five (35) elderly and residents with disabilities in Greenvale Park. Over the past week, the team also visited seventy (70) elderly residents and those with disabilities at our Carlsen Field and Ivory Haven (Beetham) communities.
This is the first time that the HDC has implemented this aspect of its social community outreach programme. According to HDC Managing Director, Brent Lyons, “Notwithstanding our current financial position, this was an initiative which I believe was necessary because this type of outreach activity will provide some measure of joy and comfort to some of the most vulnerable in our housing communities. It is my hope that we will be able to expand this programme next year, once funding permits.”
In the past year, the HDC has also coordinated a “Back To School” initiative where essential school items such as school bags, books and stationery items were distributed to school-aged residents in our lower income communities.
