The Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is in receipt of information which indicates that there are individuals who have been portraying themselves as employees of the HDC and have been conducting activities which impact needy and vulnerable citizens.
The public is reminded that any payment for Government-subsidised (HDC) housing must be made to an official located within the Cashier’s Unit at the HDC’s Head Office on South Quay, Port of Spain in the full view of cameras. This is the only method and location where payment can be made. Consequently, any other method of payment is illegal. Further, it is a crime to attempt to pay to advance a housing application. If any member of the public believes that he/she has been a victim of an illegal or fraudulent activity in relation to HDC housing, he/she must contact the HDC’s Security Department at 612 7432 ext 4801. The affected individual must also report this activity to the Fraud Squad and submit all supporting documents.
Citizens are therefore encouraged to help us put a stop to this illegal activity now so that other citizens do not fall victim to this crime and lose their hard-earned money. The HDC will continue to use its social media platforms and the media to inform and empower citizens to desist from participating in such activities.
