All is well at Greenvale Park and Oropune Gardens. This is the view of HDC Managing Director, Brent Lyons, after he and a team of engineers visited both housing communities today. At present, the water levels at Greenvale Park and Oropune Gardens are sufficiently low and ought not to alarm residents.
After the tour, Lyons indicated that he is aware that due to the heavy rainfall experience over the last twelve hours and the panic created on social media, some residents may be concerned. As such, he and the team, made it a priority to visit these two critical areas earlier today. He further stated that he is “pleased that all the mitigation systems which were recently implemented, are working as expected. The HDC will continue to monitor these systems as we continue into the rainy season.”
Over the last three months, the HDC implemented a number of mitigation initiatives in Greenvale Park. These include the raising of the containment berm to fully surround the community; raising of the berm and culvert, crossing the eastern access road; raising the roadways surrounding the community and constructing a road to connect La Horquetta South and Greenvale Park, which will be used an alternative exit route for residents. Work is currently underway on the construction and installation of an automated flood pumping station to ensure increased and more reliable pumping capacity at the detention ponds.
In addition to these works, the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Drainage Division, also conducted works on the water courses which surround the community.
