STATEMENT – Work to begin at Charford Court

The Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has noted the media stories related to issues affecting the residents of Charford Court, Port of Spain and wishes to state the following:

The HDC undertakes a number of routine maintenance and upkeep projects in communities under its remit.  Some of these works include grass cutting, garbage collection (inclusive of bulk waste), drainage and waste water maintenance. In communities where there are multi-story buildings, the HDC covers the cost for elevator services, general maintenance, plumbing and pest control. These works are executed to ensure that residents are able to live in satisfactory conditions which will not impact their personal development and the sustainable development of the community.

However, in recent times, due to the country’s economic climate, some of these services were impacted. Notwithstanding the fiscal challenges, the HDC remains committed to ensuring that residents’ needs and issues are addressed in a timely manner.

Charford Court, like other communities with an aged infrastructure, will require additional attention. It is for this reason that the HDC conducted a Conditions Survey during the months of February and March 2021, to identify the needs of the residents and the community. The HDC will use this survey to begin work on the apartments which require the most urgent attention.

Yesterday, April 13, 2021, the HDC’s Divisional Manager, Estate Management and the Facilities Manager for the area, visited the community and assessed the situation in a number of the apartments. Ms Jones, who was mentioned in the new stories, will be given priority, along with some other residents who have been more adversely affected.
